Thanks Dave. I am a Nurse practitioner (Cardiology/Heart Failure) and you've beautifully illustrated the difficulty with multifactorial conditions, and why narrow specialisms often fail to grasp what is going on (it reminds me a little of the blind men and the elephant metaphor). Myopia/arrogance are often what you encounter when you step into these specialist silos, and a solution is not found, differential diagnoses will lead you down many a dead end with these complicated conditions that we don't fully understand. Nurses are trained more holistically, and despite our own specialisms I think we often are more willing to believe patients and keep the door open for more big picture thinking. Anyway, excellent overview and I am sure you'll agree that the potential for AI to synthesise hypotheses and generate solutions in these cases is going to be unsurpassed.
Thank you, David for your vulnerability and for sharing your journey.
I have found that burnout is a subtle, or sometimes even a glaring, indication that our bodies are not in tune with their natural environment. Humanity was not designed to endure a prolonged, low-grade, mentally stressful atmosphere for years on end. As long as we continue to culturally promote certain career paths and define “progress and success” in narrow terms, we will perpetuate the risk of burnout. The human ego often believes it is separate from its environment, leading to increased challenges for both itself and the surrounding ecosystem. This widespread systemic dysregulation signals the need to realign with the natural world.
As a trained scientist in metabolic biochemistry, I have personally experienced the consequences of this disconnect for many years. I learned to engage more than just my intellect in order to regain homeostatic resonance with my environment. I encourage anyone facing burnout to pay attention to their bodies, especially through their parasympathetic responses and somatic sensations. Both our environment and our genetics possess powerful mechanisms to help heal this dysregulation, if we can approach them with humility and openness.
We have lost our homeostatic alignment with the ecosystem. The Earth is not merely a geological environment inhabited by humans; rather, the Earth nurtures humanity in the same way that our skeletons support our cells. The hubris of the human ego could ultimately lead to our downfall. The mind can be a valuable servant, but it makes a poor master.
Hi David, I remember having seen a video about you're using Cloud to investigate your health problems. But I can't find it anywhere. Could you provide a link with this article or series? (FYI: i am recovering from burnout and plan to return to work regularly in two weeks time. Your series is timely, as was my very recent subscription, I guess).
Is there a transcript available for translation in different languages?

This is an excellent breakdown Dave, kudos to you for getting this out there.

"This sounds like GI" says the cardiologist.
"Why did the cardiologist send you here? Go back."
Yeah you get shuffled around with a whole lot of "not my problem" from specialists.
Thank you, David for your vulnerability and for sharing your journey.

This is the best explanation of burnout I´ve ever read. Thank you, David!
