We are industry veterans and consultants with more than 50 years of experience between us (hence the gray beards) who are helping individuals and enterprises, from executives down, to build their generative AI muscles, onboard their companies, and stay ahead of the curve.

For our inaugural episode, we discuss the concept of Shadow AI. The fact of the matter is simple: many (if not most) workers are using AI in some capacity, and in many cases, it is unauthorized. Some surveys show that over 90% of executives use AI chatbots such as Claude and ChatGPT, whether or not it is approved by IT/HR/Legal. This extends down to middle management, which is upwards of 80% in some surveys. And on down to individual contributors, which is 40% or higher according to most surveys.
Everyone is using it, but no one is talking about it. But why?
There are many reasons, mostly due to fear. People don’t want their AI tools to be taken away. They don’t want to get fired for breaking rules. But they also don’t want to get left behind, either. Many middle managers and ICs feel like they are in a death spiral, a constant race to keep up. The pressure is on, so they feel “damned if you do, damned if you don’t.”
